30 Minutes To Infinite Success
I was listening to Earl Nightingale recently and heard him
tell the following story:
The Two Travelers and the
Farmer
A traveler came upon an old
farmer hoeing in his field beside the road. Eager to rest his feet, the wanderer
hailed the countryman, who seemed happy enough to straighten his back and talk
for a moment.
"What sort of people live
in the next town?" asked the stranger.
"What were the people like
where you've come from?" replied the farmer, answering the question with
another question.
"They were a bad lot.
Troublemakers all, and lazy too. The most selfish people in the world, and not
a one of them to be trusted. I'm happy to be leaving the scoundrels."
"Is that so?" replied
the old farmer. "Well, I'm afraid that you'll find the same sort in the
next town.
Disappointed, the traveler
trudged on his way, and the farmer returned to his work.
Some time later another
stranger, coming from the same direction, hailed the farmer, and they stopped
to talk. "What sort of people live in the next town?" he asked.
"What were the people like
where you've come from?" replied the farmer once again.
"They were the best people
in the world. Hard working, honest, and friendly. I'm sorry to be leaving
them."
"Fear not," said the
farmer. "You'll find the same sort in the next town."
What does this have to do with being ‘successful’ you are
probably asking me right now? It is
telling us that we see what we expect to see. But if we are not seeing success,
how do we change what we are expecting to see?
WHAT IS MANIFESTING MEAN?
After reading “The Secret”, “Think And Grow Rich” and many
other books on ‘manifesting’ success, I could never quite understand why none
of it was working for me. I daydreamed about what I wanted. I meditated on my
goals. I wrote them down and put up pictures everywhere. Nothing was driving me
towards my goals. Manifesting was NOT working for me.
20 years later, I was still trying to understand how to
achieve the success that I wanted. Then I finally figured it out. We can make
our conscious mind say it believes as often as we want without seeing any
change. It is about getting our subconscious mind to BELIEVE and
thus look for the goals that we want to achieve.
HOW DOES OUR SUBCONSCIOUS WORK?
Let me try to explain what I mean. Have you ever bought a
car and then over the next few weeks or months you see that make and model just
about everywhere you go? You hadn’t noticed them before though? It is because
you brain was not looking for it before.
Our subconscious is programmed to look for patterns. The
Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a part of our vision that connects with
our subconscious mind to look for the patterns that we have programmed into it.
Just like when you started seeing your new car everywhere.
When you have spent years telling yourself that you are ‘unlucky’, ‘doomed to
be single’, ‘ugly’… you get my point. Your brain starts looking for ‘patterns’
that reinforce that program. Instead of finding success at your job, your
subconscious is actually looking for ways to sabotage your success. Instead of
noticing the attractive girl/guy that is smiling at your and is probably
thinking how sexy you are. Your subconscious mind is actually drawing your attention
to the ‘hottie’ that is clearly NOT interested in you, thus reinforcing your
belief that you are ‘ugly’.
CAN WE CHANGE OUR PATTERNS?
The teachings of “The Secret” and “Think And Grow Rich” teach
that it’s as easy as “thinking about success” and developing a ‘belief’ that
you are successful, attractive, lucky, etc. However, if you are like me, the
constant daydreaming and fake belief never changed the outcomes that just
continued to reinforce my negative thoughts.
CHANGE YOUR PATTERNS FAST AND EASY
Do you want to learn how to change the ‘patterns’ that your RAS
and subconscious are looking for? What if you could do it in 30 minutes? Yes it
is truly that easy, and I am living proof.
Ideally, daily meditation is one of the more effective ways
to build those positive belief patterns for your RAS to start looking for. Until
you are practiced at it though, 20-30 minutes of meditation is darn near
impossible. Three minutes is hard enough when you are getting started. Three
minutes of meditation isn’t going to create immediate impact though. It is a
good place to start. The book “The 3-minute Meditator” by David Harp is a great
book to help you start developing good meditation habits.
But in the meantime, what are you to do? Keep living like
the ‘loser’ you feel like?
NOPE!
I found a brain hack that worked wonders for me.
Hypnosis…
No! I am not talking about going to a comedy show or going
to an expensive psychologist. Plain old YouTube videos on hypnosis worked
wonders for me. If you go to YouTube and type in “[your goal] hypnosis”, you
will find audio recordings for just about anything. Sales success. Dating success.
Self-esteem and confidence. Look for the ones that are about 30 minutes long.
Before you think it is going to be as easy as listening to
an audio once and, BOOM, you’re an instant success. That is not how it works.
It took years of bad thoughts to build your bad pattern. The good news is, it
will not take nearly that long to break it.
You will need to listen to that audio for a MINIMUM of 21
days in a row before your mind starts to really ingrain the new thought
pattern. Ideally you will listen for 30-45 days. Most likely you will start to
see a change before then, but DO NOT stop listening until that new pattern is
etched into your subconscious.
STAY FOCUSED
Once you start to see some success using this technique, it
is really easy to want to start making changes in all kinds of areas of your
life. I caution you not to try to do more than one thing at a time. Pick the area
that is more impactful to your life, work, dating, confidence, and stick with
that for 30 days. Only then, once you have developed a new pattern in your
subconscious do you move on to the next area.
Be patient! In 12 months, you can make significant changes
in 12 areas of your life. Or you can focus in on one or two and concentrate on
making significant changes in those areas. Either way, once you start to see how
this works in your life, things will never be the same for you again.
